Boilerplate (use verbatim)

Bulldog Legal is an AI-powered consumer legal app for iOS that lets anyone snap a photo of a contract, lease, severance agreement, or HR letter and receive a clause-by-clause review in about ten seconds — with the controlling statute or appellate case cited inline. It then drafts the demand letter or response correspondence to send to the opposing party. Document scanning runs entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework; only the extracted text is sent for analysis. Built in 2026 on Cloudflare Workers + D1 + Apple StoreKit + Anthropic Claude by a single founder, the company also operates a separate B2B web product, Bulldog Legal Pro, currently in closed beta for solo and small-firm attorneys.

Founder bio

Nicholas Heitkamp is the founder of Bulldog Legal. He built the company solo, shipping both the iOS consumer app and the B2B attorney web product on Cloudflare's serverless stack. The motivation came from watching his father, a solo attorney in private practice, repeatedly help renters and employees who'd already signed contracts they hadn't read — by which point legal options were narrowed and expensive. Bulldog Legal puts that first read in everyone's pocket.

What the app actually does (in one paragraph)

Bulldog Legal uses Apple's Vision framework to OCR a photo of any legal document on the user's iPhone — the image itself is never transmitted. The extracted text is sent through Anthropic's Claude Sonnet to a private inference proxy under a zero-data-retention agreement, where it is checked against a domain-specific corpus of forty-plus predatory clause types (auto-renewal traps, joint-and-several liability, waiver-of-habitability, forced arbitration, unconscionable liquidated damages, and many others). Each flagged clause returns the exact quoted text, a plain-English explanation, the controlling US statute or appellate decision, and a suggested negotiating move. The Letter Generator then produces a first-draft response letter the user can edit and send from their own email.

Pull-ready founder quotes

"Most Americans sign documents they've never actually read. The clauses that cost you money are always on page 14, in single-spaced twelve-point. Your phone reads page 14 for you now."
"We don't replace lawyers. We replace the part of the workflow where you find out about the predatory clause six months after you signed it."
"If your AI legal tool is hallucinating, you're shipping a malpractice machine. Every clause Bulldog flags carries the controlling statute or case. The model isn't asserting — it's showing its work."
