## Bulldog Legal Launches on the App Store: AI That Reads Your Lease, Contract, or HR Letter and Flags Every Predatory Clause in 10 Seconds

**Solo-founded iOS app brings cite-backed legal document analysis to everyday consumers — and ships a separate B2B platform for solo and small-firm attorneys in closed beta**

**United States — May 22, 2026** — Bulldog Legal, Inc. today announced the launch of Bulldog Legal: Contract AI, an iPhone app that gives everyday consumers the same first-pass legal review that previously cost hundreds of dollars at an attorney's office. The app is available now on the App Store, free to install, with subscriptions starting at $4.99 per week and a 7-day free trial on annual plans.

Users snap a photo of any lease, employment agreement, severance document, NDA, or HR letter. In approximately ten seconds, on-device optical character recognition extracts the text — the document image itself never leaves the iPhone — and the app returns a clause-by-clause review. Each finding includes the exact quoted language, a plain-English explanation, the controlling US statute or appellate decision, and a suggested negotiating move. A built-in letter generator then drafts the demand letter or response correspondence, edited and sent from the user's own email account.

"Most Americans sign documents they've never actually read," said Nicholas Heitkamp, founder of Bulldog Legal. "The clauses that cost you money are always on page 14, in single-spaced twelve-point. Your phone reads page 14 for you now — and tells you whether what you signed is even legal in your state."

The app's detection engine covers more than forty predatory clause types commonly found in consumer contracts: auto-renewal traps with notice periods longer than state law allows, joint-and-several rent liability provisions, unenforceable "as-is" habitability waivers, forced arbitration with class action waivers banned in California since 2018, unconscionable liquidated damages clauses, and one-sided non-disparagement language in severance agreements. Every finding is anchored to the controlling statute or case — Cal. Civ. Code §1542, Lab. Code §925, Ridgley v. Topa Thrift (1998), among others — so users can independently verify the analysis.

"We don't replace lawyers," Heitkamp added. "We replace the part of the workflow where you find out about the predatory clause six months after you signed it, when your options are narrowed and expensive."

Privacy is enforced architecturally. Document scanning runs entirely on the user's iPhone using Apple's Vision framework (VNRecognizeTextRequest). Only extracted text is transmitted to Bulldog Legal's inference API, which operates under a zero-data-retention agreement with its AI provider — customer documents are not used to train any model. The app is signed in with Apple as the primary authentication method, and offers a full in-app account deletion flow that hard-deletes user records and all associated data on request.

Bulldog Legal also operates a separate B2B web product, Bulldog Legal Pro, currently in closed beta for solo practitioners and law firms under 25 attorneys. The web platform uses the same analysis engine but is built around the matter-and-letterhead workflow attorneys actually run: per-client matter workspaces, redline comparison, batch review for closings and due diligence, and forthcoming exports to Clio, MyCase, and PracticePanther. Founding firms can apply at bulldoglegal.app/beta.

The company was founded solo by Heitkamp, with no external capital, and ships on a Cloudflare Workers + D1 + Apple StoreKit + Anthropic Claude stack — choices Heitkamp credits for the speed of getting from blank canvas to App Store approval in approximately three months.
